Welcome to the Casa de la Florista Barcelona
This vintage style apartment takes it´s name and inspiration from Miquel Pallés, a famed florist and activist who lived in this very neighbourhood. It has been decorated and maintained in a way that reflects the personality of the area which he held very close to his heart. In fact, just a few minutes down the same street on which the apartment is located, you will find a small square named in his honour - “Placeta de Miquel Pallés”.
The Casa de la Florista includes all the amenities needed to experience an authentic stay here in the city. With a fully equipped open kitchen (complete with all basic appliances, utensils and a Dolce Gusto coffee machine), you can enjoy cooking the fresh, local produce that you find as you walk the streets of the Florist´s beloved neighbourhood, Raval. Culinary hotspots such as the infamous Mercat de la Boqueria are even located practically on your doorstep. The open plan dining area accommodates up to four guests and can also be used as an office space.
The Casa de la Florista is also equipped with High speed Wi-Fi internet, Air conditioning, cooling fans, a 32Inch LG LED TV and an Amazon Fire stick. Access to my Amazon Prime TV and Netflix accounts are readily available, but you are also welcome to use your own Netflix, HBO or other accounts with it!
Fresh towels and bed linen will be provided on arrival to the Casa de la Florista, and to make your stay as convenient and comfortable as possible there is also a washing machine and utilities such as an iron, ironing board and hair dryer.
It is important to note that as this is a typical old style Barcelona building, there is no elevator access up to the apartment
The Casa de la Florista has a small kitchen with all the basic amenities for you to be able to be able to prepare your own meals, such as refrigerator and freezer, toaster, microwave, oven, induction stove, full set of knives and utensils, knife sharpener, Dolce Gusto coffee maker and Kettle.
The Casa de la Florista is also equipped with High speed Wi-Fi internet, Air conditioning, cooling fans, a 32Inch LG LED TV and an Amazon Fire stick. I have an Amazon Prime TV account already logged in, but you are also welcome to use your own Netflix, HBO or other accounts with it :)
Of the more boring necessities the Casa also has an iron and ironing board and hair dryer. Fresh towels and bed linen will be provided on arrival to the Casa de la Florista.
La Casa de la Florista is completely yours to enjoy for the duration of your stay! You are free to use all of the items provided in the apartment and I will make sure it is stocked with basic amenities like kitchen utensils, crockery, cutlery, soap, shampoo, conditioner, dishwashing liquid, detergent and so on.
Interaction with guests
I am based in a different area of the city, but I will of course be readily available to assist and advise you in any way possible during your time here!
Other things to note
After 21:00 there is a late checkin fee of 20€, and 50€ after midnight. Groups below 40 years are not allowed at this property.
We support a local charity called Casals dels Infants, which support children from under privileged families in Barcelona and other Spanish and Moroccan cities. By booking this apartment, you are helping to contribute to this wonderful charity, and trough this, better the lives of children who don't have much. If you wish to know more about Casals Dels Infants, don't hesitate to send us a message :)
Early Check in? Late check out? No problem! We can't actually let you in to the apartment earlier, or let you stay longer, but we work with a great service that can take care of your suitcases for you if you arrive much before check in time, or fly out much later than check out time, so you can enjoy your day in the city without carrying them around. If you want to know more, don't hesitate to write us!
We have named this apartment after the much loved Miquel Pallés, in order to honour his memory.
As one of Las Ramblas´ most emblematic florists, Miquel, who passed away in 2001 was in fact not born into the industry. Instead he married his childhood sweetheart Carolina who was a 4th generation florist. Interestingly enough, all the women through the generations were named Carolina, and even today, Miquel´s daughter, also named Carolina, still runs the same florist shop on La Rambla that has been in the family for many generations. Be sure to visit this and the square during your stay!
As a beloved larger than-life-personality, revered by his positive spirit and good nature, his work also extended beyond floristry. Miquel was head of the Barcelona Beekeepers association, a member of the city council of Ciutat Vella as well as an activist in his beloved El Raval, the heart of which this apartment is located in. Keep an eye out when on La Rambla - if you look carefully on the wall next to the Palau de la Virreina you will spot an image of a little bee with a watering can. While not recognisable to all, this artwork by Oscar Nebreda is actually a reference to Miquel himself!
We hope that you will enjoy your stay in the Casa de la Florista while helping us to keep the memory of La Florista alive!
The Casa de la Florista is located in the El Raval are of Ciutat Vella, or “Old Town” part of Barcelona. The real Barcelona if you will. This area is tucked in between the Montjuic hill, the beach facing Barceloneta area, The Gothic Quarters and the modern and grid shaped L'Eixample area.
It is important to note that Raval is a very lively area with a lot of different people on the streets, bars, restaurants and life all day and night. I would therefore not recommend you to stay here if you are travelling with small kids or if you are very sensitive. The apartment itself is not noisy, but being on the streets at night is.
One of the best things about Raval is that it is the heart of Barcelona's food scene. Raval is absolutely packed with the best and most innovative restaurants, from Cera 23 to La Gastronomica and Agust Gastrobar. If you stay at the Casa de la Florista and don´t eat at all of them and many more, you are missing out! ;)
Other than just food, Raval and Ciutat Vella has a lot of other sights worthy of a visit, and this is just a small sample as there really is too much to list:
The enigmatic Las Ramblas which has been immortalised in many poems, songs, movies and travel guides. Make sure to visit the florist stands.
The Rambla del Raval, Las Ramblas´ smaller brother in Raval. A circular square filled with bars and restaurants with everything from Chinese to Spanish to Italian to Turkish food.
MACBA, or Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona and ,CCCB (Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona) for the artsy among you.
Palau Guell, the palace where the Güell family (yes, the same family with the park) lived, designed by the master Gaudi.
Mercat de la Boqueria, Barcelona´s most famous fresh food market, complete with small bars and restaurants so you can sample all the great food without having to leave the market!
Barcelona Cathedral (The real one, not La Sagrada Familia!)
And on top of these things, things like the beach, Casa Battló, Casa Milá, La Sagrada
