The area of Callao is actually fixed on the square that is centrally located in the district. A vibrant and always busy square that is crossed by more than 50,000 vehicles everyday and is visited by more than 100 million people a year. On both sides, tall buildings surround it and it can be compared to the big squares in Tokyo and New York. Architecture, cinemas and many other interesting features make sure that you can spend endless hours in this area without seeing to same thing twice. It’s a place for gawking as much as exploring. The most impressing features close to the square are the Carrion Building, which was one on the tallest buildings in Madrid in the last century and combines the best of retro and futuristic aesthetics. Also, The Press Palace is worth mentioning as it takes a prominent place amongst the buildings at the square. All in all, the area around Callao square in well connected when it comes to public transportation, even though it’s so centrally located. Other hotspots like Gran Via and Puerta del Sol are within easy (and interesting) walking distance. Visiting this place and staying in this area will be a success and will make you come back for a second visit.
