One of the biggest squares in Barcelona, Plaça d'Espanya is a major junction for several thoroughfares like: Gran via de Les Corts Catalanes, Avinguda del Parel.lel and Carrer de Tarragona. Also, it leads all the way through the city to Avinguda de la Reina Cristina, which houses one of the most famous museums of Barcelona, the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, the MNAC. In front of the MNAC is the famous Font Magica, magic fountain of Barcelona which is home for a great display of water, light and colour every night. It is safe to say that this square is the most important cross section in Catalan Capital. Arenas de Barcelona is the round building attached to the square which houses many shopping facilities and dining opportunities. It resembles a bullfighting ring, and so for a reason. It actually was the main bullfighting ring in Barcelona, until the sport was outlawed in Catalonia in 2008. During New Years Eve the square is one of the main attractions with a spectacular firework show. On the other side you can find the Venetian Towers with dominate the skyline and lead the way to the Fira de Barcelona, which is one of the biggest trading centers in Europe. Almost every public transport means will travel past Plaça d'Espanya which makes it an ideal place to stay as you can reach any part of the city without having to make a transfer. Plaça d'Espanya is a busy neighbourhood where both the rest seeking person will find his share, as well as the adventurer.
