The Noses Man – “L’Home dels Nassos”
There are more traditions on New Year than only eating grapes at 00.00h. Another tradition is ¨the Noses Man¨ or ¨L ´Home dels Nassos¨. He get´s this name because he has 365 noses, every nose stands for one day of the year. In Barcelona he has a large-headed dwarf, with only one nose but it is a really big one. At New Year´s Eve he is walking through the streets and is giving candy to children and says goodbye to the old year and welcomes the New Year.

¨Cursa dels Nassos¨
Another tradition is the ¨Cursa dels Nassos¨ and is named after the ¨Home dels Nassos¨ or ¨the Noses Man¨. Also this year there is a new edition of the 10km run trough Barcelona. This run is one of the most popular and fun runs in the world. Also in Berlin, London and Paris is hold a 10km run. There is no healthier way to start the New Year by doing sport. The first edition of the race in Barcelona was held in 1999 and it becomes one of the most athletics events and there are more and more runners. Last year 9,000 runners took place at the sport event; this was a new record and the maximum of runners was awarded. This year the run will take place at Selva de Mar / Pl. de Ramon Calsina on the 31th of December 2011.

New Years Eve

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

New Years evening is one of the most special events of the year. A lot of restaurants, bars, clubs and disco´s are organizing parties. If you want to go to a famous party it is smart to buy or reserved your tickets in advance. The ticket can be more expensive because it is New Year. Famous places to celebrate New Year´s evening with no entrée are Plaza Catalunya and Las Ramblas.

Most Catalan people celebrate New Year fist at home where they eat a large dinner with family and friends. Or they celebrate it in a restaurant, bar or club. A tradition on New Year’s evening (Nochevieja) is to eat 12 grapes, for every time the clock strikes in midnight, the grapes are bringing good luck, after that you can celebrate everyone a happy newyear (Feliz Añno nuevo) and toast with cava. In the morning you can watch the sun rising on the beach with a cup of hot chocolate and Churros.

Remarkably about new year´s evening, is that there is almost no firework, they use it more with the summer festivals.

Famous clubs are: Jamboree (Plaça Reial 17), Sutton (Carrer De Tuset, 13), 7Sins (Carrer de Muntaner, 7), Angels and Kings, Hotel Me (Carrer Pere IV 272) and on the beach front in Port Olimpic area: Shoko, Opium Mar, CDLC, sotavento, catwalk.
